or would one still need to do cardio exercise as well? Im starting to do a dumb-bell work out that takes about 30-45 mins. I wanted to run every day, but found my flat feet disagree and cause much pain at the time and for days after in my shins and knees. So would doing mostly the 45 min weight lifting program every other day help to reduce fat? i want to lose 15 pounds but i want to mainly lose body fat. Thanks

Weight lifting does help with reducing body fat. Muscle burns fuel more efficiently. Also, with the flat foot issue have you tried an inserts in your shoes. There are many inserts out there "over the counter" so to speak I recommend a sport shoe store to get a decent pair. Cardio really is still a good idea because of the heart rate being pushed up. Try doing your cardio after you lift since the body is already working it will take less time to get your heart rate up. Elliptical machines might help with the impact injury issue. Or perhaps lap swimming for your cardio. Good luck hope to be back in the gym myself soon.

i heard cardio workout is a metabolism booster
so i guess the more workouts you do which focus on muscle building
effectively must equal more fat loss

Cardio and a healthy diet are really what you need to lose weight. But you may have some weight loss initially with a weight training program.

I would suggest you try running again. Get fitted for your shoes with inserts. There are stores that specialize in fitting you for the right running shoes for your foot, stride, strike, etc. Find one. Your body will thank you. Also, remember to stretch after your run and rehydrate.

If you can’t or won’t run anymore consider cycling or swimming. Both are very joint friendly and great forms of cardio. Walking at a brisk pace might even be enough (you will want to try for 45-60 minutes most days of the week).

If those aren’t options perform your weight lifting program with little to no rest between sets or combine the exercises into super sets. You could also up the calorie burn by jumping rope for 1-3 minutes (or jogging in place, performing step-ups, or a variety of other moves that increase your heart rate) between sets. It is not impossible to lose weight this way, especially if you eat a healthy diet.
