Eating disorders have gotten more attention lately thanks to talk shows and reality shows that feature those with these conditions that are willing to share their story with the world. Some are working hard to over come things like anorexia or binge eating disorder, and some are defending how they eat (or don’t eat) stating that they simply can not live any other way. Now that these are more widely know, parents have more tools to watch for and help their children if they suspect that something is not right with how they eat or how they care for themselves. Binge eating can be one of the easiest to spot of you are paying attention.

You may not notice a binge eating disorder right away, but it should become apparent. If you notice that your child is eating a lot of food but never seems to gain any weight, or may even be losing, this could very well be a sign that they are binging and purging, which means they are eating excessive amounts of food and then throwing it up before the body has a chance to digest the calories. They enjoy food very much, but they do not want to gain. For some though, this is not obvious because they do the binging in private.

If you notice this problem, there are a few things to consider before you decide that your child (or someone else that you care about) has a binge eating disorder. If they are on medications, discuss the side effects with your child’s doctor. Some medications can cause weight loss even when a child has a good appetite. If this has been the way your child has always eaten, it could be normal for their body. If they are going through puberty, it could be a hormonal thing. However, these are rare. Most often, a binge eating disorder is to blame for the behavior.

Someone living in your home with this disorder may hide it well because they know you would not approve. They may eat normally at meal time, but always find a way to get into the bathroom, usually one far from your hearing, soon after a meal is done. You may also find signs of hiding food so that they can binge in private. You may find a large stash of goodies in their room, or the wrappers piling up. Once they are far into this type of disorder they will get better at hiding it, so these clues may disappear after they have been doing this for a while.

The biggest problem with binge eating disorder is that it can cause throat cancer from stomach acid coming up many times a day. It also causes the body to go into starvation mode, and the person can lose weight to the point where they are sickly and they could die from lack of nutrition. It might seem like a personal choice and a way to still enjoy food while staying slim, but it can be a deadly way to control weight. Therapy and most often inpatient treatment is needed (often repeatedly) to fight a binge eating disorder. Don’t turn your back, get someone the help that they need.

We’ve loved food coupons, cut off from the paper and any number of other places, forever – they have always saved us $1.25 on a four-pack of soup and we’ve always wished that the coupon could somehow get even better. It just has, though it is debatable whom it really got better for. The humble coupon has just had a new avatar; and this digital coupon gives you a lot more to choose from in discounts, even if it does extract a certain amount of utility out of you too. The new digital coupon is something you find on the Internet, or you find sent to your cell phone. They look just about the same as any other coupon, but there is a big difference really in a place you would never think to look – the barcode. Let’s say that you just found food coupons to download off the Internet for packs of Fruit Loops. You go into a supermarket, load up your cart and put down your coupon at the checkout. The moment the clerk scans the barcode on your online coupon, the store sees a great deal of information about you. Loaded up in the barcode are the search terms you used in Google to eventually arrive at the coupon site, your Facebook handle and information on lots of other stuff.

Online coupons are spectacularly popular all of a sudden – there were tens of millions of these coupons redeemed in the last year alone. These coupons actually pay for themselves. The thing is, advertisers have always had this big problem with how to spend their advertising budget. Until now they’ve only been able to scatter their advertisements around, and the most sophisticated insight they could have into how well spent their money was, could be through looking up readership information about a newspaper or the ratings for a show on a channel. With Internet coupons though, they get a valuable look into exactly what it is you do on the Internet. They’ll know which product promotion you looked up, which online banner ad. you saw in the lead up to visiting their website, and so on. And they’ll know all this stuff not just about a generic “consumer” – they’ll know that about you, by name. They’ll know that you, John Moore, researched for food coupons for Omaha steaks on Ebates, downloaded the coupon and came in to buy them two hours later. They’ll be able to look into exactly everything you searched for in the lead up to that coupon download, so they’ll know exactly what you’re looking for. If a specific customer looked for cheapo cheap wine for a party, they’ll know that if you searched for “cheap party beverage supplies”. If another person searches for “cheap wedding gifts” they’ll know that person did that too – by name and address. With a name and address to go with that information.

There is just no limit to the amount of information they can usefully collect about you anymore. Now this is a system that successfully sidesteps Google’s privacy policies of keeping advertisers from looking deeply into user behavior. A Google advertiser account for instance finds out the name or the IP address of a customer. If you can bait customers with food coupons, appliance coupons, movie coupons or anything else, they’ll just voluntarily give you that information. Actually, that information is not altogether voluntary. There is a certain sleight of hand that goes on. To actually get specific information about what search term you really use on a search engine, they use a whole new way of running a website on the Internet. They will have dozens of copies of the same website, on the Internet. Each will show up on Google, for different search keyword strings. So any time you get to a particular version of their website, that is available only to searches for a specific keyword string, they’ll know what you used to get there. They could put that information on your coupon. Of course, there are other more direct ways they have of getting your keyword string too.

For instance, when you sign up on a coupons site, the coupon providers can easily get your personal information through a few simple roundabout ways. Let’s say that you are looking for food coupons, and you happen to be signed up as a fan on a Facebook page. The advertiser can take note of this, and with a little manual research, make out who you are. Privacy activists are concerned of course; but when people can get a few discounts and coupons, the privacy argument will be a hard sell.

Its movie night in your household and you find yourself eating a bowl of popcorn and craving another bowl. You pause the movie and make yourself another bowl of the buttery snack. Are you addicted to food? It’s highly unlikely; you may just love the taste of popcorn. However, if you find yourself eating a bowl of popcorn and then a bowl of ice cream, followed by some cookies and potato chips, you may be addicted to food. Believe it or not, being addicted to food is a very common disorder. While it has always existed, it has only become more acknowledged and studied in recent years.

There are tons of reasons behind being addicted to food. And, there are many different ways that people are addicted to food. Perhaps it is the compulsion that races through you and makes you feel like indulging in those comforting foods or maybe it’s the paranoia of gaining weight that makes you want to avoid any forms of foods. All of those trains of thought are forms of being addicted to food. Being addicted to food is actually simply defined as an obsessive preoccupation with food. That compulsion could easily lead to a variety of eating disorders. Most people think of bulimia and anorexia as the only forms of eating disorders. And, those same individuals probably don’t have a clue that those people who struggle with those eating disorders actually are addicted to food. They may not be addicted to food in the same manner that a person defined as an overeater would be. Those people who struggle with bulimia and anorexia are obsessed with food – just in a different way than those who indulge in overeating. Perhaps it is a way to gain some sort of control in their out of control lives. It may be very well hidden or it may be blatantly obvious to people around them. Most likely, a large amount of those who would be defined as being addicted to food are either blatantly obvious or incredibly secretive about it.

There is help for those who are addicted to food. It isn’t simply as easy as going on a diet. There is typically an underlying reason for being addicted to food. Whether it is about control, or feeling out of control in life, or there is another reason for the addiction, it needs to be treated the same way that other addictions are treated. The underlying reason needs to be uncovered and dealt with in a healthy and positive manner. If you struggle with being addicted to food, do yourself a favor and seek some help in treating this common problem. If you know someone who struggles with being addicted or obsessed with food – whether it be overeating or lack of eating, do them a favor and see if you can make a difference in their lives. It may not be welcomed from them, at first, but you could be the one who is credited with their future turning point.

Feeding a cat is usually very simple. You go to the store and you pick up a box or bag of dry cat food and you feed them when they are hungry. In that regard it is simple though, but you could be overfeeding your pet, you could be feeding them the wrong food, or they could be in a state in which they could be having trouble eating that hard cat food. If your cat is overweight, underweight, or seems to be out of sorts, it could be something that you can fix by adjusting the food you feed your cats.

When you choose dry cat food, you have to think about the age of your cat. You may not think there is much difference in the different types, but the wrong type can be bad for your cat. If you have a kitten, you should make sure that they are getting a kitten formula. This has more vitamins and minerals that your pet needs and more calories. Think of it as giving your newborn breast milk or formula as apposed to cows milk. The milk will be good when they are older, but at a young age they need something made just for them. Remember – most cats need just one cup of food a day. Give them one half in the morning and the other in the evening.

Older cats also need a special dry cat food. They need one that is made for seniors. It too has a nutritional balance that is made just for cats that are not quite as active. It can help them stay healthy, and can also make sure they are not gaining weight. If they are eating the same food they ate when they were young, they are getting the same calories. However, they are not running around as much, and their metabolic rate has fallen, meaning they can start to gain weight which can lead to many medical problems for your cat. Yes, even your cat needs to watch his or her weight to stay healthy.

Some types of dry cat food are better than others. The ones that you see on the stores shelves are good for your pets, as long as they respond to them well. If your pet seems to have problem with digestion, or if your veterinarian thinks they are not as healthy as they could be, they may benefit from eating a more expensive brand of cat food. Some are just better than others and some cats need that extra boost to remain healthy and active for as long as they can. For the most part, store brands are just fine, but your pets will also do well with veterinarian recommended brands as well.

There are going to be some pets that simply can not eat dry cat food. As your pet ages, his or her teeth can fall out. They can also have pain when eating that will discourage them from eating. They will not want to be in pain while eating. If your older pet is not eating well, but is healthy otherwise, it could be that they have tooth pain. See if they respond better when you give them soft food. If they start eating again and regain some vim and vigor, ti could be their teeth. Take them to the vet for a check up.

At least until your stomach shrinks some and gets used to it. Therefore you may want to start off small, and reduce your daily caloric intake to 1800, then 1600, then to 1400, and so on. Once you shed the excess body fat you prefer, you can then go back to a more fulfilling diet plan, but with reasonable portions and food choices. After all, you want that weight to stay off!
