Years ago author Ken Kesey wrote a book (that eventually became a movie) titled Sometimes A Great Notion. That’s how the 21 Day Fat Loss Jumpstart plan strikes most people who have tried it. It sounds good in theory, but will it really work? Many people who bought it ended up asking for their money back. The program either just didn’t quite deliver or the participants weren’t able to apply it correctly. Or maybe its premise was flawed. Whatever the cause, it hasn’t received good press.
Created by nutritionist Chris Mohr and personal trainer Todd Durkin, the plan promises to help its participants to “lose 10 pounds of fat…flatten your belly, help you get leaner, and feel amazing in just 21 days!” Unfortunately, not everyone experiences these promises. Chris throws around names like LL Cool J, Emeril Lagasse, and Denise Austin as clients of his who he’s helped. And perhaps he thinks that name dropping is part of the marketing for his product. But name dropping is not going to make the program any better if it won’t deliver the goods.
The problem with the 21 Day Fat Loss Jumpstart as some see it is that it relies too much on it’s one-size-fits-all approach. Participants aren’t educated about nutrition and proper food choices so that they can learn how to do this on their own, but rather are led by the hand to just follow the program’s suggested meal plans. As Chris says on his sales page: “We did ALL the work for you, just follow the 21 day step by step plan that I followed to lose 10 lbs of fat in 21 days quickly and safely!” To his credit, he does provide ready made meal plans so that you don’t have to think about how to structure your 21-day meals. It’s all there for you to use: just purchase the food and prepare as instructed.
While the diet education portion of this plan may have its problems, the exercise portion is designed to meet participant’s expectations of targeted fat reduction. Todd Durkin is a respected physical trainer in the industry who has devised the workout section of the program. If you’re willing to do the workouts according to the plan’s design, there should be no doubt that you will reduce your body fat. Just make sure to set aside 30-45 minutes a day to follow the exercise regimen. Now, remember, this is only for a 21 day stretch. Surely you can spare that amount of time each day to achieve your goals.
Problem is: What happens after you have completed the program? Are you given the tools to keep the weight off? Are you taught how to structure your subsequent dietary needs in order to insure you won’t gain all the weight back? Unfortunately, the plan doesn’t go that far so as to provide participants with that information.
To be fair, though, Chris does include an interview with Shawn Phillips, a respected fitness expert and author, outlining the “permanent success strategies Shawn has used in his own life to maintain a very lean, yet healthy body…” Though it isn’t much, it’s better than nothing.
There’s also an additional free e-book entitled 101 Luscious Recipes for a Lean Healthy Body. But just having these recipes without understanding the underlying reasons for following them isn’t necessarily going to change your thinking about food in a way that is healthy and lasting. Most people end up returning to their old habits after completing the diet, and guess what happens then…!
For our tastes, this weight loss program seems to use too many gimmicks and tricks (additional audio and written material) to get you to part with your hard earned money while delivering only a passable product. Although you may be able to lose the promised amount of weight using this program, you might be better served by looking for a more complete presentation that takes you from step one all the way through to how to follow-up your diet experience so that you begin living a more healthy lifestyle.

It’s interesting that, doing a Google web search, you won’t find a variety of articles listed about this program. And that the one’s you do find are mostly written by one person. Whenever such a situation arises you can usually bet that there’s a very good reason for it.
One possible explanation might be: The program is new and there hasn’t been a lot of buzz about it yet. But the fact is that 21 Day Fat Loss Jumpstart has been on the market for several months now. Surely one should expect to find more than just one person writing articles about it? Another point of view might be: Not many people have heard about this plan, and it hasn’t generated enough confidence in affiliate marketers yet to promote it.
With regard to this last POV, in one of the largest and best sources for articles about product reviews, ezinearticles.com (EZA), it was difficult to find any articles reviewing this product. Usually, when a hot new product hits the market, you will find tons of reviews about it in this article directory. But when doing a search for this product in EZA, I wasn’t able to find even one review of it. And that was out of 255 results for the search phrase “21 Day Fat Loss Jumpstart.”
In turning to the weight loss program itself, we find that it was created and developed by reputable sources: Dr. Chris Mohr, a registered dietitian and nutritionist by trade, and Todd Durkin, a highly respected personal trainer and winner of awards in the fitness field. So, what gives? With two respected people in the weight loss and fitness industry having created the plan, why isn’t there more buzz several months after its launch?
One explanation might be that it has so far not lived up to expectations. When affiliate marketers shy away from promoting a product, you can usually bet that it’s either not selling well or that it is being returned and has a high refunded rate. Or both. The number of affiliate marketers who have committed to promoting a product is usually a good indicator of the product’s perception in the public marketplace.
In the case of 21 Day Fat Loss Jumpstart, while the plan may be able to help some people lose the weight they want to lose (the plan promises that you will lose 10 pounds in 21 days; although on its FAQ page it says that “the feedback received suggests anywhere from a 5-10 lb weight loss is achievable.”), when people see the program first hand, they’re disappointed with its design. People who want a cookie cutter approach to burn belly fat may like the program because it doesn’t require them to think about what they need to do. Just follow the program and the weight should come off lickety split.
Problem is that the specter of regaining the weight back after stopping the dieting plan looms in the background, threatening to ruin all the work having been done. The plan doesn’t seem to address this eventuality very well. In fact, it doesn’t require of the participant that he learn anything about healthy eating and dietary methods at all, what foods to avoid and which to load up on. This lack of basic dietary education is one of the shortcomings of this program.
While the program is long on providing participants with meal recipes and body-targeted exercises to lose the fat people wish to lose, it doesn’t help them to establish a healthy lifestyle and diet different from what they were used to doing before. Therefore many participants simply revert back to the same unhealthy way of eating that they were doing before. The result being: they risk regaining back all the weight they just lost.
This doesn’t mean that there isn’t a potential group of people to which this diet plan wouldn’t appeal. People who want to use the plan to take off a few pounds in a relatively quick and pleasant way may find that this program fits their bill. Just be aware of the plan’s shortcomings before you try it. It’s not a lifestyle changing product; it’s a short term weight loss plan designed to achieve fast results within a short period of time. Use it for what it was designed for and you should have little problem with it.
